WELIGAMA - one of those places where you arrive and immediately feel at home,
where you end up staying longer than planned.
Weligama is the kind of place that invites you to slow down the moment you arrive. Mornings start with
soft light over the bay, the sound of easy rolling waves, and surfers carrying their boards barefoot across the sand.
Life moves gently here — relaxed, sun-kissed, and shaped by the rhythm of the ocean.
Between small local cafés, surf shops, and friendly smiles, you feel the mix of authentic Sri Lankan warmth
and chilled surf culture. Days flow naturally: a session in the water, a smoothie in the shade, a nap in a hammock,
and sunsets shared with people you’ve only just met.
Beyond the beach, colorful streets, fishing boats, and hidden coves show the raw, real side of the south coast.
Nothing feels forced; everything feels honest.
Weligama is for slow days, salty hair, and simple moments that stay with you.

The Story of MoodyMoon

´My story with the ocean began when I was just a little boy growing up here in Weligama.
My uncle was the first to take me out into the waves — small board, big excitement, and a feeling I still remember today. I taught myself how to read the sea, how to respect it,
and how to enjoy every moment in the water. From then on, surfing wasn’t just a hobby for me,
It became a part of who I am.
In 2011, my dad and I opened a Surf School. We started small, with only a few boards and a lot of passion. I still remember teaching my first students, watching their faces light up
when they stood on a wave for the very first time. Over the years, the school grew into
something special — a place where people from around the world come together, learn,
laugh, and share the ocean that shaped my entire life.
Now, I’m taking the next step and opening the MoodyMoon Surf Camp. For me, it’s more than just a project. It’s a dream coming full circle. A place where guests can live the surf lifestyle, slow down, connect, and feel the same energy that made me fall in love with the ocean as a kid.
MoodyMoon is my way of sharing the magic of this place, this community, and the waves that have carried me through my whole life.´

Had a really great stay here at Surfer’s club. Clean dorm rooms, the friendliest staff (helped us organise surf lessons and laundry service), nice brekkie options, great location (right on the beach front). Thanks guys!

Lovely place, newly renovated with amazing views. The location is perfect-just steps away from the beach and ideal for surfers - beginners or advanced. Easy access to surf spots, cafés, and local shops. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, always happy to help with recommendations & transport. Also the surf school team is really professional & always create a good vibe at the beach!

Surfer Club Hostel is a new place and it really shows. Everything is clean, modern, and well maintained. The beds are very comfortable, with good AC, hot water, and large lockers that actually fit your bags. The vibe is relaxed and friendly, the staff is genuinely nice and helpful, and the location is great! just a short walk from the beach, perfect if you’re here to surf or chill.

I did the surf and stay package at moody moon and it was everything I hoped for! Savi and all the staff are amazing and welcoming I loved playing/learning carrom with everyone at night. I’m a total beginner at surfing but bunny was very supportive and got me standing my first day! I’d definitely recommend coming here 🏄♀️🤙

For me, this is the best hostel in southern Sri Lanka: a great atmosphere, a perfect location right by the sea, clean rooms, and I've rarely experienced such lovely, wonderful, and attentive service! I highly recommend this hostel!
